THE WINTER EDIT   ·   Dry skin   ·   Gentle cleansing, hydration & barrier care

Tight cheeks. Rough patches. Skin that wants a little more comfort. Build your winter routine around gentle cleansing, a hydrating layer if you need one, a nourishing moisturizer, and morning sunscreen.

The MIDA approach
Start with a few comfortable steps. Add products only when they meet a need your current routine does not.

Why does my skin feel drier in winter?

Dry seasonal air makes it harder for skin to hold on to moisture. Korean brand guidance pairs water-based hydration with richer moisturizing care: hydration adds comfort, while a cream or balm helps limit moisture loss. A serum alone may not feel like enough when the weather turns cold. [1]

Know your ingredients

Three names to look for.

Hyaluronic acid

A hydration-focused ingredient. Torriden's DIVE-IN serum is one Korean example; Beauty of Joseon also includes hyaluronic acid in its hydrating sunscreen. [5] [6]

Ceramides

A focus of barrier-supporting moisturizers. AESTURA's ATObarrier365 cream uses ceramide technology to help skin retain moisture. [4]

Panthenol

Often included for moisturizing and soothing care. It appears in Round Lab's cleansing milk and Beauty of Joseon's Day Dew formula. [3] [6]

An ingredient list is a starting point. The complete formula and how your skin responds matter too.

The questions we hear most

Less guesswork. More comfort.

Do I need a toner, essence, and serum?

You can keep the middle of your routine simple. For this MIDA routine, choose one hydrating layer if your skin needs it, then apply moisturizer. A hyaluronic-acid serum, such as Torriden's DIVE-IN, is one example of that optional step. [5]

Why does my face feel tight after cleansing?

Your cleanser may be too drying for you. Round Lab's official cleansing-milk introduction specifically discusses tightness and stinging after strong cleansing, and presents a gentler option with moisturizing ingredients. Reconsider the cleanser before adding more layers afterward. [3]

Should I choose a hydrating serum or a richer cream?

They play different roles. A light hydrating step can complement a cream that helps hold moisture in. Amorepacific's seasonal skincare guidance describes this balance, while AESTURA focuses on ceramide-based barrier care. For a short routine, start with a moisturizer you enjoy using and add a serum only if needed. [1] [4]

Do I still need sunscreen in winter?

Yes. Beauty of Joseon's dry-skin guide keeps sunscreen in the routine even on gloomy winter days. Its US Day Dew SPF 50 directions place sunscreen after moisturizer and advise reapplication at least every two hours. Always follow the directions on the specific sunscreen you use, including after swimming or sweating. [2] [6]

Introduce new products gradually and patch test first. Stop using a product if it causes irritation. Persistent discomfort deserves advice from a dermatologist.
